JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Domestic Minister ( Minister of Home Affairs) Tito Karnavian explained the reasons for his recent actions by giving harsh warnings to a number of district heads who did not comply with health protocols.

In addition, Tito wanted the public to assess how the regional head candidates responded to the regional elections during the Covid-19 pandemic.

“You can’t even control your supporters, how do you want to be a leader? Whereas in dealing with the pandemic, we have to do with the public,” said Tito.

He reminded that the number of residents in the regency, city or province is certainly not small.

So, there is a big responsibility for a leader in the area to protect its citizens from potential Covid-19 transmission.

Previously it was reported, in the past week, three regional heads were reprimanded by the former National Police Chief.

The reason was that the regents were deemed to have violated health protocols by gathering the masses regarding their candidacy for regional head candidates Pilkada 2020.

The three of them were Regent Wakatobi Arhawi, Regent of West Muna Laode Muhammad Rajiun Tumada and Regent Muna LM Rusman Emba. The three of them are regents in the Southeast Sulawesi Province (Sultra).

The Directorate General of Regional Autonomy sent a written warning to the Governor of Southeast Sulawesi Ali Mazi in two separate letters.
