Reasons for Residents Rejecting the Construction of the At-Tabayyun Meruya Mosque

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

A number of residents of Taman Villa Meruya (TVM), West Jakarta, will convey their aspirations to the Governor of DKI Jakarta Anies Baswedan related to development refusal Masjid At-Tabayyun.

They will convey that aspiration to coincide with the plan to lay the first stone by Anies today, Friday (27/8).

One of the residents, Ridwan Susanto, said that the aspiration would be conveyed in the form of a peaceful protest which would be attended by around 50 residents. They admitted that they would only convey their aspirations to Anies.

“Tomorrow, we plan to hold a peaceful protest at the groundbreaking of the construction (of the mosque),” Ridwan said when contacted, Thursday (26/8) night.

Ridwan emphasized that the residents of the Taman Villa Meruya (TVM) complex did not reject the construction of the mosque. They dispute the land for the construction of the mosque because it functions as a green open space.

In addition, according to Ridwan, the groundbreaking was also carried out in the midst of an ongoing legal process. Currently, the lawsuit process is still ongoing at the State Administrative Court (PTUN).

“This is still the case, in fact there is still no decision from the Administrative Court, the decision is only scheduled to be issued on August 30,” he said.

Ridwan admitted that he had lived in Taman Villa Meruya since 2013. He said that the developer had provided land for places of worship, but the mosque construction committee still chose the disputed land.

The construction of a mosque in Taman Villa Meruya has become a polemic. The mosque is planned to be built on a social facility area of 1,078 m2 belonging to the DKI Provincial Government.

The mosque construction committee claims to have received a Decree (SK) of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Number 1021 of 2021 concerning Approval for the Utilization of Regional Property in the Form of Land Located in Taman Villa Meruya.

One of the points of the decree approved the use of Regional Property in the form of land covering an area of 1,078 m2 to the committee. The utilization is given in the form of a lease for a period of 5 years.

However, the construction of a mosque on the land was rejected by residents. Several RT heads who refused then sued SK Anies to the Jakarta Administrative Court.

One of the petitions is to ask the Panel of Judges to declare null or void the Decree of the Governor of the Special Capital Region of Jakarta Number 1021 of 2020 concerning the construction of the At Tabayyun Mosque Taman Villa Meruya.

“They argue that the decree violates environmental regulations. Because they think it is green space, before the governor issued this permit, it was repositioned first, changing functions,” the chairman of the mosque construction committee, Marah Sakti Siregar.
