(CNN) — The Supreme Electoral Tribunal of Bolivia (TSE) extraordinarily suppressed the resources for 35 million Bolivians (about US $ 5 million) destined to subsidize propaganda politics of the parties that will participate in the general voting on September 6, to reassign them to guarantee sanitary measures for the process itself.
The president of the TSE, Salvador Romero, said on Saturday at a press conference that the money will be used to reinforce the budget of this institution to carry out an electoral process that is safe from the point of view of health for all the actors who intervene in the preparatory tasks and on the same voting day.
Romero expressed appreciation for the understanding of political organizations that have massively raised their willingness to resign to those resources.
“It is an extraordinary situation, because these times are extraordinary, marked by a very serious deterioration of economic variables as a consequence of the effects of the pandemic of the coronavirus. It is an hour that requires detachment and sacrifices, ”said Romero.
The TSE president added that the resources will remain in the budget destined for the September 6 general elections, where the Court will require an additional 14 million Bolivians (about US $ 2 million) to meet all sanitary requirements.
The total cost of the general elections in Bolivia will amount to 215 million Bolivians (more than US $ 31 million), according to the TSE.
This month, the president of the transitional government, Jeanine Áñez, promulgated the law to call presidential elections.
