The transfer window for the winter market closed at midnight on Monday with no last minute news for Real Madrid and Atlético. Isco and Vitolo considered a change of scene but the circumstances did not arise. The man from Malaga was the one who was most willing to leave, but Real Madrid did not receive offers for a player who has been losing value over the last few seasons. Villarreal was interested in the transfer of Vitolo, who hardly counts for Simeone, but the canary was never there for the work and both clubs ruled out the operation.
Madrid has shed two players in this market: Odegaard (on loan to Arsenal and Jovic, to Eintracht). Kubo changed Villarreal for Getafe. Atlético have incorporated Moussa Dembelé (on loan from Lyon for a million, with a purchase option in summer for 33 million) and have lost Diego Costa (without a team), Saponjic (Cádiz) and Manu Sánchez (Osasuna).

The reality of this new freeze in entries in the Real Madrid squad highlights an unprecedented fact in its recent history. Florentino Pérez has not signed any owner since in the summer of 2019 he incorporated Ferland Mendy from Lyon for 50 million, an express request from Zidane. Mendy has sent Marcelo to the bench.

In 2020 things have gone even worse for whites. In last year’s winter market, Florentino Pérez only made one incorporation, the 18-year-old Brazilian Reinier Jesus, for whom he paid 30 million to Flamengo. The player started at Castilla, did not convince Zidane and in the summer he was loaned to Borussia Dortmund, where he languishes without opportunities. In four months he has played 136 minutes.
