The two Greek teams who were thrown tonight in the battles of the quarter-finals of the Basketball Champions League return to their base empty-handed. Peristeri and Prometheus now need two wins in as many matches against their opponents to qualify for the final four in Belgrade.
Vassilis Spanoulis’ Peristeri performed quite well in Bonn against the trophy holder, but lost touch in the third period and lost 89-78 (halftime 45-44). In the last minutes, he even played without Kenny Williams (9 points), who left injured. Mitrou-Long (22), Love (13), Ragland (9), Dangubich (9) distinguished themselves.
Prometheus lost in Malaga to the strong Unikaha with 67-54. The difference jumped to 20 points in the first half (42-22). Ilias Papatheodorou’s team was down 53-47, but couldn’t get within shooting distance. Hale (14), Cowan (11), Etsenike (8) were the best.
The second match will take place next week in Athens and Patras respectively. If a third match is needed for qualification, our teams will again travel to Germany and Spain.
