First of all, the branches are now smashed. The majority of the 276 branches now go directly to the competitors Kaufland and Edeka.
Another branch package continues under the name Real. Real should be responsible for the operational business itself. For this, ex-Kaufland boss Patrick Kaudewitz switches to x + Bricks. He is supposed to monitor the operational business of the Real branches that continue. He is also to develop new shop concepts. The same applies to the real.de online marketplace.
Branches are also likely to be rebuilt so that smaller mini malls are created. Customers can then find a supermarket, drugstore, pet supply chain, fitness studio, lottery acceptance point, post office and hairdresser, for example. The buyers want Real employees to continue to be employed. Either at the new Kaufland, Edeka, Real or Mini Mall branches.
However, it is also clear that there may be no future-proof use for some real markets. Affected branches are closed and maybe even demolished. Employees then have to look after a new job.
