Readers’ Forum: Park politics drives people out

I am also a passionate two-wheeler (motorcycle and scooter) and can only underline what Mr. Rügamer and Ms. Heller are talking about. I live in the country, where a bus connection to Würzburg is a disaster. Driving to Würzburg by car is almost no longer possible due to the increasingly reduced parking spaces. That’s why riding a two-wheeler is the better decision for me, because – despite the difficult parking situation – I can find a place for it somewhere. I don’t mind occupying a parking space that is not in front of the store. I’m happy to find one at all.

I also agree with Mr. Rügamer on the point that the parking policy means that people no longer have to stroll, eat or come to the city center. I only go to Würzburg myself when I have a doctor’s appointment there and I can’t help it. It’s really a shame that this parking policy drives people out of the city center. Right now, after the lockdown, it would be important to lure people back into the city center and not to keep them out of the parking lot situation, because this will not stimulate the economy again.
