Newly auctioned Superman movie sold at auction for record sum At an event organized by auction house Heritage, the comic written by Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster sold for US$6 million (roughly Rs. 49 crores). The plot of the story revolves around the birth of the super hero character Superman as the son of Krypton, the child’s arrival on Earth and his love for Louis Laine. Comics grading firm CGC said that only 78 original copies of the comic have been sold so far_._ It received a score of 8.5 out of 10 for being old but not too damaged. The new auction surpasses the record of Superman film which was auctioned for Rs 44 crore in 2022. Meanwhile, in 2021, Spider-Man’s first film was auctioned for around Rs 29 crore.
Vice President Barry Sandoval said that Thursday’s auction was a very special one in the history of the 4-day event and that the bidding in the first session could exceed US$15 million. He said that comic arts are yet to be auctioned and hence more history will be made in the coming days. The script auction is very important with the upcoming Superman movie, which is being produced by James Gunn. On the opening day of the auction, a letter written by Seagal to comic artist Russell Keaton in 1934, mentioning the idea for the Superman story The “Man of Steel”, fetched nearly two crore rupees.

But Superman wasn’t the only one setting records. A 1963 Avengers comic featuring Thor, Iron Man, Hulk, Ant-Man and the Wasp also sold for huge sums. And two copies of Justice League of America, which scored 9.6 points, were auctioned for Rs 2 crore each. Also, a version of Wonder Woman fetched around Rs 3 crore, the Disney Plus remake of Daredevil fetched Rs 2 crore and Doctor Strange fetched around Rs 1 crore.
