The Ministry of Health decided on Thursday to set up a new protocol for rapid tests at the level of health centers. These are serological tests, which would allow rapid recognition of people at risk.

Released yesterday, a circular from the ministry explains that in the event of positive results for covid-19, a PCR test is carried out. While awaiting his result also, the patient must already be placed in confinement.

According to the ministry, this mechanism should make it possible to reduce testing times, but also the duration of circulation of potentially infected or contagious people. Thus, the circular consulted by Yabiladi provides that “ESSP primary health care establishments are called upon to carry out rapid serological tests for the population at risk and suspected cases referred by private sector doctors, dispensing pharmacists and those detected at the health center level ”.

If the tests show the presence of antibodies which confirm a recent infection with the new coronavirus, the patients concerned must be referred to hospital structures, for the performance of a PCR test and a complementary assessment. In the meantime, they are also called to observe a home confinement.

In the event of a negative PCR result, the health center must inform the patient and recommend self-containment, with respect for barrier procedures. But in the event of positivity for covid-19, the asymptomatic patient will remain monitored from home, if his state of health does not require hospital care.

Indeed, this new measure should lighten the hospital structures dedicated to the reception of covid + patients, so that their capacities are not quickly saturated, in a context in which Morocco is experiencing a sharp increase in infections and case admissions in intensive care, in critical situation or in respiratory distress.
