Ramona Russu exports Corsican contemporary art to the Florence Biennale

Considered as an exceptional showcase of world artistic production, the 13th edition of the Florence Biennale brought together more than 10,000 visitors this year, who came to admire the works of art of more than 460 artists from all over the world.
Supported by the Collectivité de la Corse, Ramona Russu honored women and island wealth by drawing inspiration from the theme of the biennial with large-format canvas portraits representing a visual analogy between woman and immortal Corsica. Inspired by religious roots, Ramona embellishes her canvases with 24 carat gold leaf, a symbol of light, perfection and divinity. With this creative metaphor, the works of this artist place women at the center of the discussion. A deeply current discussion on the role and importance of women in contemporary society.
In a search for exterior and interior beauty, meaning and symbols, Ramona’s works combine her admiration for the female silhouette and her passion for graphic design and monochrome. In her creations, these elements come together and tell the visual story of the contemporary island woman, in a surrealist, graphic and political style.

An artist of Romanian origin who graduated from the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Brussels, Ramona Russu moved to Corsica in 2014. Inspired by beauty. and the multitude of Corsican riches and symbols, it is in Bastia that she continues to cultivate her creative universe.
His works are present in private collections in the United States. In 2019, Ramona’s works were also selected to represent the international exhibition The Annual Fall Gallery Walk in Chicago on FOX News. In Corsica, Ramona’s work is represented by the Bel’Arti gallery in Calvi.
