If I Receive Money, I Resign

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marvest) Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan ready to resign if he is proven to have received money from business tes polymerase chain reaction (PCR).

Luhut does not care about work matters if he resigns from the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet. He admitted to having many jobs outside the government.

“Yes, if I receive my money resign, it’s easy. Just like that, it’s a hassle, just like that,” said Luhut in an interview with CNN Indonesia TV which aired, Friday (12/11).

“I’m ready, if I’m wrong I’m resign, I have a lot of work outside,” he said.

It is known that Luhut was accused of being involved in the PCR business. Luhut is said to have founded PT Genomics Solidaritas Indonesia (GSI), a company that provides Covid-19 test services. Luhut’s company, PT Toba Sejahtera, is also said to have a number of shares in the company.

Luhut admitted to investing in PT GSI but not to take profit. The company, said Luhut, was built with a number of other big entrepreneurs as a humanitarian project during the pandemic.

Luhut claims he and his colleagues founded the company to help make PCR tests cheaper and can get 5,000 samples in one day.

“If I go to GSI, I put money in, I ask them to, but not in the context of taking profit,” said Luhut.

Luhut also stated that he had no conflict of interest in the PCR test business with his position as the official responsible for handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Java-Bali.

He stated that his decisions regarding the Java-Bali PPKM policy did not include the interests of the PCR business. This is because all these policies must be audited by the Financial and Development Supervisory Agency (BPKP).

Luhut emphasized that no profits went into his personal pocket or his company, PT Toba Sejahtera, and other shareholders in PT GSI.

“So there is no (profit), nothing at all, nothing, zero,” he said.

“Just check, just audit,” he added.

Previously, former YLBHI Director Agustinus Edy Kristianto said a number of government ministers of President Joko Widodo were involved in the PCR test business. According to him, the ministers are affiliated with PT Genomik Solidaritas Indonesia (GSI), a provider of Covid-19 testing services.

Edy said the company was founded by a number of large companies. According to him, Luhut was involved through PT Toba Bumi Energi and PT Toba Sejahtra, a subsidiary of PT TBS Energi Utama Tbk (TOBA).

In addition, there is the name of the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir. Edy linked Erick with the Adaro Bangun Negeri Foundation which is related to PT Adaro Energy Tbk (ADRO).

Special Staff to the Minister of SOEs, Erick Thohir, Arya Sinulingga, called this a tendentious accusation. The reason is that GSI only carried out 700 thousand tests out of 28.4 million or 2.5 percent of the total PCR tests in Indonesia.

Luhut and Erick have been reported to the KPK regarding this matter. The KPK also confirmed that it would follow up.
