RAM (Random Access Memory) is a type of superfast storage – faster than the main phone storage where your apps, photos, videos, and music live. And it helps the smartphone work and feel fast.

Launch Business Insider, here’s how RAM works and what it does when it’s on smartphone we:
1. You can think of RAM as the pocket and main storage of your phone as your backpack. It’s much quicker to get something out of your pocket than to get something out of your backpack.

2. When turning on your phone, and opening apps for the first time, your phone pulls the slower operating system (OS) and app data from your phone’s main storage and saves most of the OS and app data in your faster phone’s RAM. We can use various elements and features of the OS and applications quickly.

3. After you are done with the applications in use, your phone saves the applications and whatever you do in the RAM of the phone, even if you switch to other applications.

4. When you return to the application that you used a while ago, the application will open right where you left off, as if we never left the application, because it has been stored in your phone’s RAM. Basically, the applications we use keep running in the background while you are using other applications.

5. Switching between apps and continuing right where you left off is often called “multitasking”. If a phone is said to multitask well, it’s because it’s using RAM well.

6. If the phone does not have RAM, the application will close completely every time you switch applications. That means the app has to be reopened completely again, as if you were opening it for the first time after turning on the phone, which causes a delay before you can use the app.
