Rajon Rondo breaks his thumb in Orlando Lakers practice

ORLANDO – Los Angeles Lakers point guard Rajon Rondo suffered a fractured right thumb in training for the team in the Orlando “bubble” on Sunday night, the team announced.

The Lakers indicate that Rondo will undergo surgery this week to repair the fracture, adding that the player is expected to return to full activities in six to eight weeks.

The Los Angeles team traveled to Orlando, Florida on Thursday night for the resumption of the 2019-20 NBA season and practiced for the first time on Saturday.

Rondo, who signed with the Lakers in 2018, missed several weeks during the 2018-19 season after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ligament in his right ring finger.

The point guard averages 7.1 points, five assists and three rebounds per game this season, has appeared in 48 games for the Lakers and has started in three.
