Rail: Stadler to work for Matterhorn Gotthard – Economy

Stadler will deliver 12 trainsets to the Valais railway company Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn for 148.5 million francs. By 2028, a total of 27 trains will be delivered for more than 300 million francs.

The first delivery of ORION trains to MGBahn, a subsidiary of the BVZ Holding group listed on SIX, is scheduled for the summer of 2022, according to the press release published on Wednesday. The twelve trains will run in winter 2023. The other fifteen units are announced for 2028.

“As the world’s leading manufacturer of rack and pinion trains, we are proud to be able to manufacture rolling stock for the demanding network of Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn,” said Peter Spuhler, President of Stadler Rail, cited in the document.

Trains can run on the entire network between Zermatt and Disentis and in particular on the steep slope between Göschenen and Andermatt. They can accommodate up to 990 passengers and have 444 seats including 66 in first class. (ats / nxp)
