Rail at The Hague quickly recovered after derailment, trains already on Sunday morning | NOW

Train traffic between The Hague and Utrecht is slowly starting to rise again on Sunday after a train derailed at The Hague Voorburg station on Thursday. From 10.30 a.m. on Sunday, two more intercity trains will run between The Hague and Gouda per hour, according to the Dutch Railways.

The Dutch Railways initially assumed that the blockage would last until Monday morning, but ProRail’s repair work is going well.

The timetable on the route is not yet at full strength, but that is due to work that was planned this weekend and that has nothing to do with the derailment. The schedule is that they will also be over by 5 a.m. on Monday morning and then four intercity trains and two sprinters per hour will run between The Hague and Gouda.

The NS advises travelers to check the travel planner for the latest information.

Train was running with damaged wheels

On Thursday afternoon a train near the Voorburg station got off the track. The train was running with two heavily damaged wheels and that was probably the cause of the derailment, according to the Dutch Railways.

Rob Luyten, technology director at NS, has investigated the train. “Such serious damage to the wheels is rare and it is essential to find out how this could have happened,” said Luyten.

Together with ILT and the Dutch Railways, the Dutch Safety Board is conducting extensive investigation into the accident. According to Luyten, this research is still ongoing.

A train conductor was slightly injured when the train derailed. 170 people were on the train at the time of the derailment. None of these people were injured.
