DB announces: Long-distance traffic still partially restricted on Tuesday

8:33 am: Deutsche Bahn expects “largely normal operation” on Tuesday. However, there could still be some long-distance outages during the day.

The following routes are currently closed due to bad weather:

  • The route of the EuroCity trains between Munich and Zurich: The trains currently do not run between Munich and St. Margarethen.
  • The connection between Tuttlingen and Singen (Stuttgart-Singen line) has been interrupted and is likely to be open again only this afternoon. The IC trains between Tuttlingen and Singen will be replaced by a shuttle bus service from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. Individual IC trains between Stuttgart and Tuttlingen can be omitted.
  • The route between Kassel-Wilhelmshöhe and Gießen is closed. The long-distance trains are diverted. There are no stops at Treysa, Stadtallendorf, Marburg (Lahn), Gießen, Friedberg (Hess) and Frankfurt (M) West.

Information on individual connections can be found at www.bahn.de/reiseauskunft (Advertisement) read or under the Free hotline 08000 99 66 33 be asked.

Only a few closures in rail traffic in the southwest

07.28 a.m .: After the restrictions due to the storm “Sabine”, rail traffic in Baden-Württemberg is slowly normalizing again. “There are no longer any weather-related restrictions on the heavily frequented routes,” said a spokesman for Deutsche Bahn on Tuesday morning. The S-Bahn in Stuttgart is running regularly and according to plan. However, there are still closures on other routes: On Tuesday morning, smaller sections of the Black Forest Railway, the Höllental Railway, the Three Lakes Railway and the Gäubahn were closed according to the railway operator.

Rail traffic in Hesse largely stable

07.07 a.m .: Rail traffic in Hesse is largely stable again due to the restrictions due to the storm “Sabine”. “In isolated cases, however, failures and delays can occur,” said a spokeswoman for Deutsche Bahn on Tuesday morning. This applies to long-distance and regional transport.

However, the storm has left some damage. According to the railway spokeswoman, trains on the Frankfurt-Cologne high-speed line cannot currently stop at Limburg-Süd station. There, part of the roof had come loose on Monday and is now threatening to collapse, as the spokeswoman said.

The Rhein-Main-Verkehrsbund (RMV) also points out individual failures on its website. There was a tree on the track near the Neustadt train station, so that replacement buses ran there. In Königstein im Taunus (Hochtaunuskreis), there may be delays and cancellations in bus traffic. “The reason is road closures for safety reasons and due to storm damage,” said the company.

Aircraft take off again in Munich

06.29 a.m .: After the stop at Munich Airport due to the hurricane low «Sabine», machines have been taking off again since early Monday evening. Around 800 of 1050 flights had been canceled by then, a spokesman said. Because the wind was too strong, no aircraft were loaded or unloaded since 7.45 a.m.

The consequences of the storm were less noticeable at the airports in Nuremberg and Memmingen. In Nuremberg, where, according to an airport spokesman, 36 of around 110 flights were canceled by the afternoon, there was no check-in stop. Two planes were even picked up, which should have actually landed in Munich. According to a spokeswoman, the situation in Memmingen was quiet. “The planes take off and land,” she said. Only two Flights failed, two were redirected. But there were delays.

Rail traffic restrictions still exist

06.26 a.m .: Regional drivers of railways in Bavaria must continue to expect weather-related restrictions. The focus was on Tuesday morning in the Allgäu and south of Munich on the routes towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Kochel am See, as a railway spokesman said. The Munich S-Bahn still had restrictions on the S6 between Tutzing and Gauting and the S8 between Wolfratshausen and Baierbrunn.

The railway wanted to resume its long-distance traffic on Tuesday morning in Bavaria – just like in the rest of Germany – without major restrictions. In the morning, individual problems can not be avoided, it said.

Clearance stop at Munich Airport – 630 flights canceled

4.36 p.m .: Munich Airport imposed a termination on Monday due to the storm “Sabine”. After there were still isolated landings, air traffic came to a complete standstill later. A total of 630 out of 1050 flights had already been canceled in the afternoon (Overview here) that should have started and landed in Munich on Monday, said the spokesman.

As soon as the storm subsided and handling was again possible without risk, it should be resumed. When that would be the case, it was still unclear in the afternoon. The wind force must fall below the limit of 50 knots (about 92 km / h), a spokesman said. Then the first vehicles should drive over the tarmac again.

The consequences of the storm were less noticeable at the airports in Nuremberg and Memmingen. In Nuremberg, where 36 of around 110 flights were canceled according to an airport spokesman, there was no check-in stop. Two planes were even picked up, which should have actually landed in Munich. According to a spokeswoman, the situation in Memmingen was quiet. “The planes take off and land,” she said. Only two flights were canceled, two were diverted to Bergamo. But there were delays.

Long-distance rail transport in Bavaria released again

15.55 p.m .: The long-distance traffic of the Deutsche Bahn (DB) was released again in Bavaria on Monday afternoon. Train traffic could gradually start up again, the train reported. In the morning, long-distance traffic had already been released again in northern Germany after the hurricane depression “Sabine”, but the trains still had to stop in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.

ICE route between Frankfurt and Cologne released again

02.05 p.m .: Bad news for commuters between Frankfurt and Cologne: Because roof parts have loosened on a platform roof at the train station in Limburg, the ICE route between Frankfurt Airport and Cologne is currently blocked, as Deutsche Bahn announced on Twitter.

Update: After an inspection, the ICE route was released again. The Deutsche Bahn just announced via Twitter: “The platform roof has been checked, train traffic can be resumed. The # ICE trains between #Frankfurt airport and # Cologne will resume their journey shortly.”

S-Bahn trains in Munich are running again

13.55 p.m .: S-Bahn traffic in Munich is slowly returning to normal. As the Deutsche Bahn (DB) reported, the trains of the S1 to Munich Airport were on the way again. The S2 also drove between Munich and Erding, the S4 started on the route between Grafing and Pasing. The S7 was able to drive on the section from Höllriegelskreuth to Hohenbrunn. On the routes, however, “delays and short-term partial cancellations must still be expected,” said the railway.

Road closures in rail traffic in Upper Bavaria and Swabia

1:49 pm: The Bavarian Oberlandbahn in Upper Bavaria is still severely affected by the storm. At lunchtime, the company announced that the section between Holzkirchen and Rosenheim on the important rail route between Munich and Salzburg was closed to train traffic due to storm damage. Travelers should note the following information:

  • Meridian: On the Holzkirchen – Rosenheim route, the overhead line was torn off by a falling tree. Therefore, train traffic is still not possible in this section. A rail replacement service (SEV) with buses is set up.
  • BOB: The Holzkirchen – Munich route is still closed. Explorations in the Oberland will take place again from 1 p.m. It is then decided whether operation on the Bayrischzell / Lenggries / Tegernsee – Holzkirchen routes can start again.
  • BRB: The Schongau – Weilheim and Augsburg – Ingolstadt lines are also still closed due to trees in the track. The trains run between Eichstätt Bahnhof and Eichstätt Stadt.
  • BRB (Ostallgäu-Lechfeld-Bahn): There is no train service between Füssen and Buchloe. A rail replacement service (SEV) with buses is set up. The buses run in a pendulum without a fixed timetable, as closings and delays must also be expected on the roads. Exploration trips are planned for the Buchloe / Kaufering – Bobingen – Augsburg sections, which should lead to a decision on how to proceed.

Here the Bayerische Oberlandbahn informs passengers about the further course.

After the storm “Sabine”, Deutsche Bahn launched the first regional routes in Northern Bavaria however, again released for traffic. However, there are still considerable delays in Franconia, said the train. The private operator Agilis also resumed traffic on the Weiden-Bayreuth route and two other routes on Monday morning, albeit at a reduced speed. Delays and failures must continue to be expected, said Agilis.

Rail traffic in the north is normalizing again

12.21 p.m .: After the storm “Sabine”, the situation on roads, rails and in ferry traffic in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and in the entire north has returned to normal. As the Deutsche Bahn announced on Monday, long-distance traffic has started again. But since there are still problems in other federal states, travelers should inform themselves about their trains and routes in good time. Tickets remained valid until February 18.

Numerous flights canceled – Eurowings is slowly starting up again

12.06 p.m .: Also on Airports in North Rhine-Westphalia canceled numerous flights due to the hurricane low in the morning. Above all, Eurowings’ decision to cancel almost all flights during the storm led to around 150 canceled take-offs and landings at the two major NRW airports in Düsseldorf and Cologne.

In the morning, Eurowings announced that it would gradually resume flight operations from 10:00 a.m. Nevertheless, “there will still be irregularities at German airports”. Eurowings passengers are asked to inform themselves about the situation via the website eurowings.com and via a customer hotline (+49 1806 320320).

Dozens of flights have also been made in Stuttgart canceled. According to a spokeswoman, at least 35 starts were canceled by Monday morning. The airport expected restrictions until late in the afternoon.

The effects of “Sabine” will be felt on Hamburg airport continue to be felt on Monday. Machines take off and land, but 42 arrivals and 47 departures have been canceled, a spokeswoman said.

Regional traffic in Baden-Württemberg is still idle until noon

11.04 a.m .: After the violent gusts of storm and hurricane, regional traffic is in Baden-Wuerttemberg silent for longer than previously planned. “At the earliest at noon” the first trains would start again, said a railway spokesman. The rails and connections had been checked for damage in the early morning, but further exploratory trips were necessary after further strong winds. “As far as possible, traffic will then be resumed on the routes following any repair work,” said the train.

Since most trains from private rail companies like Go ahead and Abellio (Overview of all faults) roll on the tracks of the Deutsche Bahn, there are usually the same restrictions with the private railways. Abellio advised its passengers not to travel on Monday. “Unfortunately, it is already foreseeable that the disruptions will continue throughout the day,” said a spokeswoman for the company in Stuttgart.

Deutsche Bahn has been “gradually” resuming long-distance traffic since 10 a.m.

10.15 a.m .: Long-distance travelers can expect a slight relaxation. Since Monday morning, 10 a.m., long-distance traffic has been “gradually” rolling back at Deutsche Bahn. This was confirmed by a spokesman for the railway when asked by FOCUS Online. The best thing is that long-distance transport is currently starting up again in the north. “Except for Bavaria, where there are currently no trains, we will resume long-distance traffic,” said the spokesman. However, passengers still have to expect impairments in nationwide rail traffic.

Nothing works anymore: Bahn stops all train traffic in Bavaria

09.55 a.m .: Due to the heavy winter storm “Sabine”, Deutsche Bahn has all traffic in Bavaria set. The weather does not allow train journeys until further notice, the company announced. All long-distance rail traffic across Germany has been stopped since Sunday. Deep “Sabine” is currently moving across Germany with storm and hurricane gusts, there were injuries and damage.

Update: Even with the Bavarian Oberlandbahn there are massive storm problems and road closures. “The first exploratory trips on the Meridian, BOB and BRB routes led to some sobering results,” the company announced on Monday at 10.30 a.m.. The current situation is as follows:

  • Meridian: The section between Rosenheim and Munich is currently closed due to trees in the track. The evacuation takes at least five hours. Trees were also found in the track area on the Holzkirchen – Rosenheim line.
  • BOB: The section of the route between Holzkirchen and Munich is also closed due to trees in several places on the track.
  • BRB: Here too storm damage on several sections. The train traffic Eichstätt Bahnhof – Eichstätt Stadt was resumed.
  • BRB (Ostallgäu-Lechfeld-Bahn): Shortly behind feet, trees also fell into the track.

It is still not possible to start train traffic until at least 2:00 p.m., it said. Bayerische Oberlandbahn GmbH and Bayerische Regiobahn GmbH are in contact with the emergency services to enable the routes to be cleared quickly.

Regional train traffic in Baden-Wuerttemberg According to the train, started on Monday morning at 8:00 a.m. How it looks on the individual routes depends on the weather-related situation. The situation would first have to be explored and any damage repaired.

Storm “Sabine” causes flight cancellations at airports in southern Germany

08.32 a.m .: At the Munich Airport 420 of the more than 1,000 planned flights were canceled as a precaution (Overview here). As well on Nuremberg airport several flights were canceled for Monday (Overview here). Above all, Lufthansa, Munich Airport’s largest customer, had suspended all continental flights until 1 p.m. and all intercontinental flights until 2 p.m. at Germany’s second largest airport.

The Airport in Stuttgart had already prepared and canceled flights on Sunday. According to a spokesman, a total of 40 take-offs and 36 landings were canceled by Monday morning (Overview here). Some airlines had canceled flights in advance. Due to the storm, 190 take-offs and landings in Frankfurt had been canceled the day before.

Operation largely discontinued: S-Bahn chaos in Munich’s rush hour traffic

8:16 am: Bad news for all commuters in Munich: Since shortly before 8 a.m., S-Bahn traffic in Munich has largely ceased due to the severe storm, as the S-Bahn Munich announced on Monday morning via Twitter. This should cause considerable problems for tens of thousands of passengers in the morning rush hour.

The S-Bahn Munich has largely ceased operations for safety reasons. “It is currently planned to maintain a shuttle service between Pasing and Munich-East. On the outer branches of the S-Bahn, the S-Bahn goes to the nearest station and ends there,” said Deutsche Bahn. All information about the S-Bahn chaos in Munich find commuters here.

Disabilities due to fallen trees on highways in Bavaria

Two motorways closed in NRW

06.41 a.m .: The rush hour traffic in North Rhine-Westphalia started after storm “Sabine” on Monday morning without major traffic jams and disabilities. The trains, however, did not run after DB Regio had ceased operation on Sunday in North Rhine-Westphalia due to the storm. As soon as it was light, exploratory trips would be started at a slow pace to gradually release tracks, a DB spokesman said. The company expected disabilities throughout the day.

The WDR reported 31 kilometers of congestion on the highways nationwide at 6.23 a.m. – comparatively little on a Monday morning. “Maybe today some work from home or take vacation,” said a spokesman for the state control center of the police.

The situation in Cologne is similar: While machines to Leipzig, Milan or Hamburg failed, passengers for flights to London, Barcelona or Manchester were handled as planned.

Above all, Eurowings’ decision to cancel almost all flights during the storm led to around 150 canceled take-offs and landings at the two major NRW airports.

Stuttgart Airport: Many flights canceled

06.11 a.m .: Because of the hurricane low “Sabine” dozens of flights at Stuttgart Airport have been canceled. According to a spokeswoman, at least 35 starts were canceled by Monday morning. Passengers are stuck at Cologne Central Station – Bahn provides care package and sleeping bags

Cologne, 9:59 p.m .: FOCUS online reporter Frank Gerstenberg describes his impressions from Cologne: Some of the train passengers in Cologne do not know when and how their journey will continue. The 30-year-old social worker Saskia from Berlin has been on the train since 1 p.m. today. In Duisburg she should have changed to the train to Utrecht, where she wanted to take a few days off. However, the final stop was in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. She took a taxi to Cologne at her own expense and is now standing in line at the Deutsche Bahn information desk. The blonde woman in the khaki quilted jacket has a large red backpack on her back and a small green one in the front with a half-empty water bottle in the side pocket. On the outside, she looks relaxed. “Meanwhile,” she tells VIP News online. “Here in Cologne they are obviously trying. But in Rheda-Wiedenbrück I was already angry.” After a long wait, the passengers were told: “You can now look for a taxi.” She initially paid the money for the 150-kilometer journey to Cologne out of her own pocket. “I hope I’ll get it back.” At the information desk in Cologne, she receives a taxi ticket to Utrecht in just a few minutes. However, it requires four passengers. To Utrecht or Amsterdam. Sunday evening at 10 p.m. Was she exhausted? “I can’t think about that anymore.”

In any case, the Deutsche Bahn in Cologne seems to be doing everything possible to supply the stranded passengers. If you don’t want a taxi ticket, you get a hotel voucher for a “contract hotel”, explains an employee of Deutsche Bahn VIP News. An overnight stay at the train station is also possible: “There are two hotel trains on platform 1.” For passengers who want to rest and continue tomorrow as early as possible. “We took care of everyone,” says the Bahn employee. He doesn’t know exactly how many there have been since the rail traffic in NRW stopped at 4 p.m. “In any case, there were many thousands.” The passengers would all receive a care package with baguettes and sweets as well as coffee, tea or water. They also received a sleeping bag with a blanket and pillow.

Also blocked several highways in Lower Saxony

9:59 p.m .: On many motorways in Lower Saxony, the storm depth creates disabilities and dangers. The A7 from Hanover to Kassel had to be blocked between Hildesheim and the Salzgitter triangle after trees fell onto the road, the traffic management center in Lower Saxony announced. The closure should last until Monday morning.

The A30 from the Bad Bentheim border crossing in the direction of Schüttorf was also blocked, probably also until Monday morning. In the further course, a track near Melle between Osnabrück and Bad Oeynhausen was blocked due to fallen trees.

Trees collapsed on road: A45 towards Frankfurt fully blocked

9:36 pm: Due to fallen trees, part of Autobahn 45 is completely blocked in North Rhine-Westphalia. The section between the Kreuz Hagen and the Hagen-Süd junction, in the direction of Frankfurt, is affected. This was announced by the state road construction company on Sunday evening. According to the Dortmund police, more trees threatened to fall. The closure is expected to last until Monday noon, 1 p.m., said a police spokesman.

Fell on overhead contact line and caught fire: Burning tree stops train traffic

8:26 pm: A burning tree on the tracks stopped train traffic on the Flensburg-Neumünster railway on Sunday. The storm depression Sabine suffocated the flames itself, as the fire department association Rendsburg-Eckernförde announced. The tree tore down the overhead line at Timmaspe and caught fire.

More than 40 flights canceled: Sabine also paralyzes Hamburg Airport on Monday

8.20 p.m .: Due to the storm lows Sabine canceled dozens of flights by several airlines at Hamburg Airport on Monday. According to a plan published online by the airport on Sunday evening, more than 40 arrivals and departures for Monday have been canceled. Further deletions and delays could be added, it said on the airport’s homepage. The airport asked passengers via Twitter: “Before you arrive at the airport, please inform yourself about your flight status and keep in touch with your airline.”

  • You can find the departure schedule here.
  • You can find the arrival plan here.

Railway company Abellio announces massive disabilities due to Sabine

7:57 pm: Train passengers in Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia have to face considerable disabilities at the Abellio railway company on Monday due to the storm storm Sabine. A company spokesman said on Sunday evening that there would be massive delays and cancellations. In most cases, no substitute traffic will be offered.

Delays can already be expected on Sunday evening. As a precaution, Abellio reduced the maximum speed of his regional trains to 80 kilometers per hour. This affects the diesel network in Saxony-Anhalt, which connects Magdeburg with the Salzlandkreis, the Harz, Stendal and Wolfsburg. Bahn wants to provide overnight trains

6:25 p.m .: Stranded train travelers, whose trains cannot continue on Sunday due to the storm Sabine, should receive hotel vouchers and taxi vouchers as part of their passenger rights. So-called overnight trains are also to be provided in larger train stations, said DB Group spokesman Achim Stauss on Sunday in Berlin’s main train station. This had “already proven itself in previous storm situations”.

Nationwide, several thousand railway employees are also on duty, “many volunteer in such situations”. Trains in regions particularly affected by the storm should “be kept in the train stations” because passengers can be better looked after there. You should not continue on the route.

In Hanover, flights to and from Paris, Amsterdam, Munich and Frankfurt were affected, the airport said. At Bremen Airport it was also about connections to Frankfurt, Munich, Amsterdam and Stuttgart. The rest of the airport operations are currently not affected, said a spokesman for the Bremen airport.
