Words like “white”, “whitening” and “clear” will no longer be part of the terminology of l’Oréal. Thus decided the group, for its products, following the demonstrations against racism.
–White / whitening, clear (fair / fairness)… These different words often used on l’Oréal products to standardize the skin are no longer appropriate. In a statement, the French cosmetics giant announced their withdrawal.
The group is not the first to have made this decision. The Indian subsidiary of Unilever had already decided to withdraw the word group “Fair & Lovely” from the marketing of its lightening cream.
Anti-racist protests following the death of George Floyd in the United States have put several companies under pressure. This is the case of Mars, which says that it is thinking about developing its famous Uncle Ben’s.
