Queen and Alice Cooper give benefit concert for Australian forest fires

A nine-hour benefit concert was held in the ANZ stadium in the Australian metropolis of Sydney today. The proceeds go to the Red Cross, the Australian fire brigade and the victims of the ongoing forest fires in the country.

The organizers managed to catch several big names, such as Queen with Adam Lambert, Alice Cooper, Michael Bublé, Ronan Keating, Olivia Newton-John and Amy Shark.

The Australian actress and comedian Celeste Barber presented the show. She already started an online collection campaign and collected 50 million Australian dollars.

70,000 tickets

The 70,000 tickets for the concert were sold in a few hours in advance. The prices for the tickets fluctuated from 70 to 100 dollars. The show can be followed live on the Australian channels Foxtel and Seven. The organizers still encouraged viewers to deposit money.

In recent months, various stars have already worked to raise money for the victims of the forest fires. Leonardo DiCaprio’s environmental organization, Earth Alliance, donated 3 million dollars and set up a new fund for it. Elton John, Chris Hemsworth, Kylie Jenner, Pink, Kylie Minogue and Metallica also donated high amounts.

Australia has been ravaged by forest fires since September, causing millions of hectares of nature to be destroyed. The fires killed 33 people and destroyed more than 2,500 homes. An estimated more than a billion native animals have also been killed.

A few small fires were still raging, but earlier this week the New South Wales state fire brigade said they were under control.
