Putin threatens to retaliate if NATO uses hypersonics in Ukraine

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Russian President, Vladimir Putin, threatened to retaliate if NATO acting beyond boundaries to help strengthen the defense Ukraine, let alone deploying hypersonic weapons.

“If an attack system appears in Ukraine, the flight time to Moscow is only 7-10 minutes, and only five minutes if hypersonic weapons are deployed. Just imagine,” Putin was quoted as saying. Reuters.

He then said, “What should we do if that scenario happens? We then have to create something similar to their threat. We can do that now.”

Putin then pointed out that Russia had just successfully tested a hypersonic missile with a flight time of five minutes at nine times the speed of light.

He admitted that he was surprised that NATO always ignored Russia’s warnings not to expand the strengthening of military infrastructure in various regions, such as the deployment of troops in Poland and the deployment of the Aegis Ashore missile defense system in Romania.

Putin made it clear that he did not want to see the deployment of the MK41 system again. For a long time, Russia has protested because the MK41 can be used to launch Tomahawk missiles.

Creating such a threat [di Ukraina] is an impassable limit for us. I hope it doesn’t come to that. I hope we can use common sense so that the country and the world can be at peace,” Putin said.

On the other hand, NATO threatens Russia to pay a heavy price if it commits violence against Ukraine.

“There will be a high price for Russia if they again decide to use force to hinder Ukraine’s independence,” NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said Tuesday.

“We have different options and we have shown over the years, in reaction to Russia’s previous use of military force against Ukraine, that we can maintain heavy economic and financial sanctions, political sanctions.”

Russia has been under constant criticism after annexing Crimea from Ukraine in 2014. Since then, NATO has strengthened its support for Ukraine.
