KIEV – Kiev does not trust the Russian President Vladimir Putin will be desperate to launch nuclear strike in the war in Ukraine. Ukraine’s UN Ambassador Sergiy Kyslytsya said such recklessness was tantamount to suicide.

A survey from the American Psychological Association (APA) released in March found that nearly 70 percent of Americans fear Russia’s invasion of Ukraine will lead to nuclear war and that the world is in the early stages of World War III.

Since Putin ordered his troops to attack Ukraine on February 24, in what Russia says was a “special military operation”, a number of developments have caused considerable anxiety that he may finally decide to use nuclear weapons.

He ordered his nuclear forces in high alert or combat-ready mode a week after the invasion began.

Ukraine has asked for more help from the world, including NATO. However, although a number of countries have sent lethal and non-lethal aid and imposed sanctions on Russia, none has committed to going to direct war with Moscow.

The Kremlin said in March it could use nuclear weapons if the very existence of the Russian state was threatened.

Speaking to Newshub Nation on Saturday (9/4/2022), Ambassador Kyslytsya said Russia’s threat of nuclear war amounted to blackmail.

“I don’t believe it’s possible. It’s suicide for Putin himself,” Kyslytsya said.

“Putin’s trait, who likes to project an image of invincibility and courage, Putin’s trait is that he is a very weak person. I don’t believe he wants to kill himself by launching a nuclear strike because he would receive a proper answer. It was basically suicide.”
