Pursuing EBT Investment, Government Approaches UAE Again

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The Indonesian government again held a meeting with the United Arab Emirates government to discuss bilateral cooperation between the two countries. One of the focuses of discussion is cooperation in the energy sector.

This meeting was held between Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi and State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan and UAE Minister of Energy and Infrastructure Suhail Mohammed Faraj Al Mazroui.

“During the meeting we also explored other renewable energy projects in Indonesia. We also asked the United Arab Emirates for support for Pertamina’s business discussion with ADNOC (Abu Dhabi National Oil Company),” Retno said in a virtual press conference, Saturday (22/8/2020 ).

He said that currently the renewable energy project between Indonesia and the UAE is a 145 MWp solar power plant (PLTS) project in Cirata, West Java. This project is targeted to conduct groundbreaking in June next year and is expected to start operating in the second half of 2022.

This is a project collaborated by PT PLN (Persero) through its subsidiary PT Pembangkit Jawa Bali Investment with Masdar, a renewable energy company from Abu Dhabi. The investment value for this project reaches IDR 1.8 trillion.

“We know that oil imports are still high. We don’t want to just be a market, but we also want to get additional technology from a big country like the UAE, especially in the energy sector. We are not only cooperating in oil, but we are also working together to explore renewable energy sources. Hence one point meeting What we will do is how PLN can transform with Masdar’s partner to build solar energy, which is currently in Cirata and we will explore it again in several other areas, “said Erick at the same opportunity.
