The gift, as the head of Chechnya himself stated, is “as a thank you for exemplary and faithful service” to the commanders who “previously fought against international terrorism” but now have participated in the war in Ukraine. The video attached to the report shows at least 20 “Mercedes” and “GMC” cars that have become gifts to strongmen.

The price of each GMC “Yukon” SUV in the minimum configuration is 57,400 US dollars, but in Russia they are sold for almost 112 thousand dollars. Meanwhile, the retail price of the Mercedes GLE 450 SUV is around $69,500.

True, it is not the first time that Kadyrov gives away expensive cars. Sportsmen have also received similar gifts before. In 2018, a “Mercedes” worth at least six million rubles was awarded to Khabib Nurmagomedov, in 2021 to UFC wrestler Hamzat Chimayev and Magomed Ankalaev, who received similar cars.

Kadyrov’s actions differ from war criminal Vladimir Putin’s call for top government officials to switch to Russian-made vehicles. According to Putin, they should support Russian brands.
