Public Prosecution Service Demands Seven Years in Prison for Complicity in Deadly Robbery: Case Update Jan 29, 2024

Jan 29, 2024 at 5:05 PM Update: an hour ago

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) is demanding seven years in prison against twenty-year-old Jermaine S. for complicity in the death of a counselor at the Yorneo youth institution in Emmen. As the leader of a youth gang, S. is said to have instigated the deadly robbery.

In addition, the man from Emmen is suspected of complicity in an armed robbery of a McDonald’s on January 9, 2023. The Public Prosecution Service also holds him responsible for preparing several (failed) robberies at a gas station in the week before the fatal robbery of the youth care institution.

The suspect allegedly gave the seventeen-year-old and twenty-year-old robbers clothes, masks, a bag and a knife. They allegedly discussed “making money” several times in his home.

When the robbery of a gas station in Emmen failed that evening, the robbers decided to rob the safe in the youth institution where one of the two suspects lived. According to the Public Prosecution Service, there was peer pressure and the need for proof, which meant that the two did not want to return to S empty-handed.

The Public Prosecution Service therefore finds S. complicit in aggravated manslaughter. “In this case, this means that he must be held partly responsible for killing a young woman to conceal a theft,” the Public Prosecution Service writes in a statement. press release.

The victim died on the spot during the robbery on January 14. The 26-year-old supervisor was allegedly stabbed in the neck and kicked. The knife used allegedly came from S. The idea was that the money from the robbery would be distributed in S.’s house.

S. already has a criminal record

In addition to involvement in the robberies, S. is also suspected of scooter thefts in Groningen in April 2022.

The suspect already has a criminal record. Because there is still a probationary period for previously imposed sentences, the Public Prosecution Service wants conditional prison sentences to be converted into unconditional prison sentences.

It is still unknown when the court will make a ruling. That date will be announced on February 1.

Prison and TBS demanded against suspects who commit violence

The Public Prosecution Service announced the demands against the suspects in the robbery last week. The seventeen-year-old suspect, who allegedly stabbed the woman, was sentenced to two years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment.

The twenty-year-old suspect allegedly kicked the victim. The judiciary demanded ten years in prison and TBS with compulsory treatment.
