Public Knowledge About HIV Is the Key to Overcoming the Aids Epidemic

KLATEN – The Klaten Regency Government (Pemkab) held a commemoration of World Aids Day, Thursday (16/12/2021). This outreach activity is part of a series of World Aids Day commemorations which are celebrated every December 1st.

The head of the Klaten Regency World Aids Day Commemoration, Muhammad Mujab, said that this commemoration was held with the hope of increasing public awareness about HIV/Aids infection. The activity with the theme “End Aids, Prevent HIV, Access for All” is intended to provide the right understanding to the community so that they can participate in the HIV/Aids prevention and control movement.

“The theme is with the hope of inviting all of us stakeholders and all levels of society to increase our commitment and support to move, work together, and synergize in implementing the prevention and control of HIV aids, in order to achieve Ending Aids 2030 or Aids-free Indonesia,” he said at the time. give a welcome.

In addition to being held face-to-face at the Klaten Regency Pendapa, this socialization was also held online through a Zoom Meeting and was attended by a number of stakeholders and layers of society.

On this occasion, PLH Klaten Regional Secretary, Ronny Roekmito, invited the community to take part in breaking the chain of the HIV/Aids epidemic, especially in Klaten Regency. From the records of the Aids Control Commission (KPA) of Klaten Regency, in the period 2007 to October 2021, 1,147 Klaten residents were infected with HIV/Aids.

“This is a pretty big number. It takes the participation of all parties, including the community, to take part in efforts to dismantle the phenomenon of the spread of HIV/Aids,” he explained.

Ronny, who also serves as Deputy Chairperson of the Klaten KPA I, said that the spread of HIV/Aids was like an iceberg phenomenon because the cases that were recorded were only on the surface, but the root of the problem had not been completely resolved. Plus the negative stigma that is already attached to people with HIV/Aids (PLWHA).

“The number of cases of HIV Aids cases from time to time continues to grow, so it is our collective duty to uncover the iceberg phenomenon, namely that people with HIV indications can be found and treated. Currently, the drug for this virus has been found, but it must be consumed by the patient for life, but the sufferer needs to be embraced so that they want to be treated, “he said.

He added that with the active role of the community in tackling the HIV/Aids epidemic, Ending Aids can be achieved faster than the target.
