Olaf Scholz has to cancel all public appointments this week: after his trip to the Gulf States, he tested positive for the Corona. The chancellor’s symptoms are mild and the chancellery’s official apartment is now used for solitary confinement.
Chancellor Olaf Scholz tested positive on the Corona test. Government spokesman Steffen Hebestreit announced that he had mild cold symptoms and immediately went to solitary confinement in the Chancellor’s apartment in the Federal Chancellery. “The public appointments this week will be canceled, the Chancellor wants to virtually attend the internal appointments and the scheduled meeting with the Prime Ministers of the federal states”.
Scholz returned on Sunday from a two-day trip to the Arabian Peninsula. Before starting the journey, he had done a PCR test, which was negative. According to government sources, he tested negative on Sunday.
Scholz had not previously contracted Corona. During a trip to Africa in May, a corona outbreak occurred in his delegation, during which several members of his environment delegation were infected. Scholz himself was spared.
Wednesday’s prime ministers’ conference is the chancellor’s biggest date of the week. The main target is the third aid package for prices that have risen in the course of the Russian aggressive war against Ukraine.
On Monday, Federal Interior Minister Nancy Faeser announced on Twitter that she tested positive on the Corona test. “Now Corona has caught me too, for the first time. The virus remains treacherous. Take care of yourselves this fall!” She wrote.
