PSV despite huge blunder goalkeeper Mvogo in extremis past FC Emmen | NOW

PSV also narrowly won the second game in the Eredivisie on Saturday. The team from Eindhoven seemed to lose points against FC Emmen due to a huge blunder by goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo, but still won 2-1 in the Philips Stadium.

Noni Madueke signed for the opening goal in the 21st minute and his first goal in PSV’s main force. It also seemed to stay at 1-0, until Mvogo made an incredible mistake in the final phase. The goalkeeper let Philipp Max pass under his feet and seemed to give FC Emmen a point.

PSV insisted in the last minutes and received pay for work. Substitute Maxi Romero headed in the 2-1 in the fourth minute of injury time after a good cross from left back Max, leaving the team of trainer Roger Schmidt free for their own audience.

It is not the first time that Mvogo has made a painful mistake at PSV. The keeper, hired from RB Leipzig, led the home team in the away match against FC Groningen (1-3 win) last week, but that blunder was not fatal to his team either.

At PSV, Mohamed Ihattaren returned to the starting eleven. Trainer Schmidt put the attacking midfielder on the bench against FC Groningen, because he had not used himself well in training.

Due to the oppressive victory, PSV is on six points after two rounds. FC Emmen, which lost to VVV-Venlo last week, is still winless.

PSV immediately dominant in the opening phase

As expected, PSV was the parent party from the first whistle and was looking for a quick opening goal. Cody Gakpo was close in the fifth minute, but his hard shot went straight to goalkeeper Dennis Telgenkamp.

Where Emmen was actually mainly busy with holding back, the visitors were very close to 0-1 after twenty minutes out of nowhere. Robbert de Vos completed the ball towards the intersection, but goalkeeper Mvogo intervened very well.

Shortly after that opportunity it was still hit for PSV after a nice attack. Max, who was brought in this summer, broke through on the left and passed the ball to Madueke, for whom it was a breeze to hit.

Mvogo makes another mistake

After the break nothing changed in the game image. PSV dominated and hoped to decide the game quickly, but with a few small chances – Ryan Thomas shot wide and Pablo Rosario far over – that did not work.

In fact, Emmen came threateningly for the PSV goal several times. Captain Glenn Bijl tried a free kick after 67 minutes, but his attempt from far was blocked. Not long after, PSV escaped at a dangerous moment in the penalty area where Mvogo accidentally got the ball against him.

The equalizer still fell, but came completely out of nowhere. Mvogo let a simple back pass from Max just pass under his feet and roll over the goal line, which suddenly led FC Emmen to a surprising draw.

In the end it didn’t get that far. PSV threw out a final offensive and fought its way past Emmen deep in injury time. Romero, who had entered the field in the 89th minute, headed in a cross from Max and prevented PSV from losing expensive points in the second league game of the season.
