PSV coach Peter Bosz speaks of a fair result after the 1-1 draw against Ajax on Saturday in the Eredivisie cracker. He does not think his team played great in the Johan Cruijff ArenA, but is impressed by Luuk de Jong and Mauro Júnior.
“This is a normal result,” Bosz concluded at the press conference. “Luuk headed onto the crossbar for us, Ajax still had chances at the end. It wasn’t great on our part. I can live with this, especially considering the circumstances.”
Bosz was referring to the many absentees at PSV, which missed Guus Til, Joey Veerman, Noa Lang and Ricardo Pepi due to injuries. Mauro Júnior therefore had to start this Eredivisie season for the first time, while Jong PSV players such as Jesper Uneken and Tygo Land were on the reserve bench.
“It was an intense match, many players were through it at the end. Normally we can force something from the bench with a striker like Pepi, but now that was not possible. From an attacking point of view, it was limited in terms of options.”

‘Mauro Júnior played really great’
Bosz was therefore happy that his striker Luuk de Jong delivered by coming through for his direct opponent in the first half and making it 1-1. “It’s unbelievable what Luuk does. It wasn’t even an easy ball. Really very clever.”
The trainer also mentioned Mauro Júnior as a standout player. “He played really great. This was his first game this season in the starting line-up and also in a position he is not used to. Suddenly Mauro was not a left back, but a left half and he did a fantastic job. And that against a good opponent. “
According to Bosz, Ajax has grown. “This is a completely different Ajax than at the start of the season. It is more compact, better organized. That is also why I can live with a point.”
