Proximus will provide 1.5 million Flemish houses with fiber optics – IT Pro – News in the coming years

Proximus will provide 1.5 million households in Flanders with fiber in the coming years. To this end, the provider works together with the Swedish investment company EQT, which also has a stake in Delta Fiber.

Proximus says that it has entered into a definitive agreement with the Swedish EQT Infrastructure. This investment company builds fiber optic networks in several places in Europe. The companies have agreed to provide 1.5 million Flemish households and companies with fiber optics. That will happen in ‘the coming years’, but there is no definitive timeline yet. In any case, Proximus wants to have fiber optics in 4.2 million households and companies by the end of 2028.

Part of the plan is to install fiber optics in the entire region of the capital Brussels. Proximus also wants to install 500,000 extra connections in Wallonia, but details are also lacking about this. Proximus says it wants to provide more information about the plan in the middle of next year. The company then wants to tell you which regions will be next and when.

To complete the plan, Proximus starts a new joint venture with investment company EQT. The provider will own 49.9 percent of this. A plan has been submitted for this, which authorities have yet to approve. EQT is also the largest shareholder of the Dutch Delta Fiber. That worked before also together with Proximus for the installation of fiber optics.
