Protests in Milan for anti-Covid regulations: ultrà, right-wing and suburban children on the street

Ultras, right-wing militants but above all twenty-year-olds from the suburbs without any strategic planning. This was the composition of the protesters who stormed the center of Milan last night in the wake of the protests against the anti Covid measures that are spreading throughout the country. On the street there were no precise political acronyms but even with the masks and hoods, exponents of various right-wing groups were recognizable who, especially in the first phase along Corso Buenos Aires, had a role of coordination and management of the square.

When the younger ones started throwing barriers, overturning waste baskets and damaging the dehors of the premises, some “adults” literally slapped them and ordered them to stay in the ranks. “The shops don’t touch, we’re here for something else”, they shouted at various times. And if these internal antibodies weren’t there, the windows of the entire street would have been vandalized.

As a sort of police service, some would pass to lift what had been shot down, to clear the road from the confusion left by the procession.

The real news of last night are the youngest, second or third generation North Africans who communicated in Arabic, charged each other in perfect Milanese and sang French slogans typical of the suburbs in a group. For many of them it was the first manifestation, they could not even distinguish tear gas from pepper spray. Yet it was the most active, violent and dangerous part because it was really unpredictable. To act as a link between the two worlds were the ultras, not only from Inter and Milan.
