Prostate cancer is skyrocketing and breast cancer is becoming an epidemic

Oncologist José Ramírez drew attention to the rapid increase in prostate cancer in men, while breast cancer in women is projected as almost an epidemic.

“There are two or three variations, between five and eight years ago the most frequent cancer was that of the womb, cervical, that statistic has changed and now breast cancer is the most diagnosed, and prostate cancer that has been rising from a very important way ”, explained the director of Incart.

Ramírez said that this indicates that currently the most diagnosed cancer in women is breast cancer, while in the case of men it is prostate cancer.

He explained that in the case of prostate cancer, it has an almost vertical ascending curve, in the increase experienced in the country in the last three years.

The doctor says that it has not yet been possible to determine if there is more prostate cancer, if men are being checked more, or if there is a combination of both, and recognized that this is a phenomenon that should be investigated.

“We as the National Cancer Institute, when this issue of the pandemic improves a little, we have to focus on answering some questions like that of prostate cancer, the issue of breast cancer continues to rise significantly in the last seven or eight years This is almost looking like an epidemic ”, he stressed.

He acknowledged that everyone in the health field has focused on the pandemic, but recalled that in the last ten years, cancer kills nine and ten million people a year, and 19 million new cases are diagnosed annually.

He indicated that to this must be added what the World Health Organization has said that in the next 50 years there will be one hundred percent more in the number of cancer, specifically in developing countries.
