In order to promote the prevention and timely detection of breast and cervical cancer in the female population, the State Secretary of Health, Dr. Pepe Cruz, announced that there are 836 exclusive modules for women’s health located in hospitals and health centers. of health, so that they come to receive timely attention.
The head of the state agency explained that this service was strengthened this year, since previously it was only offered in health centers and was extended to general hospitals and basic community hospitals; The modules are spaces attended by female professional staff, to create a better empathy and confidence in the users, and that they can clear their doubts in a confidential and respectful environment.
She mentioned that women between the ages of 25 and 69 receive, in the first instance, awareness raising in which they are made aware of the importance of performing screening tests (cytology, HPV, and clinical breast examination), since, if If an abnormality is identified early, they can save your life with timely treatment.
He pointed out that clinical breast examination is performed in women between 25 and 39 years of age; Pap smear or cytology for women 25 to 34 years old; and human papillomavirus (HPV) testing for women ages 35 to 64.
He explained that after raising awareness, women go to an exclusive area, where they first fill out two forms with their personal data and background; Later, the staff performs a breast examination, starting from the neck, armpit and supraclavicular hollow in the right breast and left breast, to check if it hurts, burns or has any inflammation, nodules or discharge.
They then have Pap smears to detect early changes in the cells, which can lead to cervical cancer; and PCR testing to detect the presence of human papillomavirus, a virus that can cause abnormal cervical cells or cervical cancer.
If any anomaly is found in the breast or cervix, other related studies such as ultrasound, mammography or colposcopy are ordered; As soon as there is a confirmatory result of breast or cervical cancer, they are referred to specialized hospitals to receive timely care.
Dr. Pepe Cruz calls on all women to go to the nearest health unit and receive this free service. They have to go without having done a douche or vaginal wash or having done it more than three days before taking it; in addition to presenting two copies of INE and proof of address.
