Promising results for pancreatic cancer treatment | RTL News

Of the ten patients who participated in the study, nine are still free of tumors and in good health after a year and a half. Normally the cancer returns within this period in most patients.

Approval

“The results are so promising that a request for application in a larger group of patients is awaiting approval,” says Van Eijck. A follow-up study with sixty to eighty patients has yet to get the green light from the Central Committee on Human Research (CCMO).

Pancreatic cancer is an extremely deadly cancer. Less than 10 percent of people are still alive five years after diagnosis. Since 2015 the Survival with Pancreatic Cancer Foundation has been running the Support Casper campaign. The aim is to have affordable treatment for every patient by 2030 at the latest.

11 million euros

So far, EUR 11 million has been donated to fund studies by eighteen scientists. Today is World Pancreatic Cancer Day.
