According to France Blue Basque Country, the professional team of Biarritz Olympique (Pro D2) could move to the North of France from September 2022. Indeed, the war is in full swing between the president of BO, Jean-Baptiste Aldigé, and the town hall of Biarritz, around the development project of the plain of Aguilera retouched by the municipality, and therefore the relocation of the Basque club becomes clearer.
“The BO should evolve at the Villeneuve d’Ascq stadium from the 2022-2023 season”
Jean-Baptiste Aldigé, and its rugby director, Matthew Clarkin, have spent the beginning of this week at Small. According to local radio, the strongman of Biarritz Olympique would even be very close to reaching an agreement with the club of Marcq-en-Barœul (Olympique Marcquois Rugby), currently a resident of Federal 1 and who is the Northern flagship club since the dissolution of Lille Metropole Rugby in 2016.
The relocation project of the Basque club “could therefore become reality” and the BO should evolve on the lawn of the stadium. Villeneuve d’Ascq from the season 2022-2023. “The time to finalize the entire transfer and to find the legal terms of such an operation”, specifies thus France Blue.
Olympique Marcquois formally denies!
Except that this Thursday, March 18, the club Marcq-en-Barœul strongly denied this information in a statement posted on his social networks. “In view of aberrations that we could read in the media, theOlympic Marcquois wishes to reassure all supporters and lovers of the BO on its intentions and the fact that its development will not be built on the ashes of their club », Explains theOMR.
So is it a simple game of pressure exerted on the town hall of Biarritz from Aldigé or a real intention of the BO executives to relocate 1000 km from the Basque country? To be continued …
