Prime Minister’s Party in Armenia’s parliamentary elections / Article

The Armenian parliamentary elections are likely to have been won by Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s Civic Treaty Party. According to preliminary results, it received about 55 percent of the vote.

As early as Sunday evening, Pashinyan announced that a “steel” revolution had taken place in the country and expressed his readiness to start consultations with all healthy political forces in the coming days. According to him, the victory of the people of the country has been experienced.

In second place, with the support of about one-fifth of the electorate, is former President Robert Kocharian’s bloc “Armenia”, which is in sharp opposition to the ruling party. This political force does not intend to recognize the election results, as they are controversial and unreliable. This is possible only after the investigation of all possible violations.

Meanwhile, political experts consider the election results to be a bit unexpected, and the low turnout is also surprising – only half of the population went to the polls.

In November last year, after the war, the Pashinyan government reached an agreement with Azerbaijan, as a result of which the Armenians lost part of Nagorno-Karabakh territory and all areas of the security buffer zone. This provoked sharp protests against the government.
