Prima is considering reducing the resolution of its free-to-air stations

Prima TV is going to reduce the picture resolution of most of its stations in DVB-T2. This was stated at the Digimedia 2021 conference by Lukáš Kubát, who is in charge of developing business opportunities in the television group.

“Considerations are about reducing quality from 720p to 540p. We don’t know yet if all channels, because CNN Prima News, for example, has a harder to read title bar, “Kubát explained. There is also a variant in the game that the main station of Prima would remain in the best resolution. The decision should be made within one year.

Private TV stations usually classify HD and Full HD broadcasts only on paid platforms. A recent survey by Atmedia, which commercially represents smaller thematic stations, found that the availability of HD resolution is the reason for 32% of viewers to start paying for Internet, satellite or cable TV.
