President of Abkhazia does not intend to resign

MOSCOW, Jan 10 – RIA News. President of Abkhazia Raul Khajimba not going to resign, told RIA Novosti the first deputy head of his administration Dmitry Shamba.–

Shamba added that Khajimba remembers the opposition’s earlier promise to wait for the Supreme Court’s decision following the presidential election and act strictly in the legal field.

“Understanding the futility of their claims in court, the opposition decided to move to radical methods,” he quoted the president.

The opposition is unhappy with how the case of the presidential election loser Alhas Kvitsiniya is being considered, as well as the investigation of the shootout in Sukhum in November 2019, the low socio-economic situation and corruption in the country.

The day before, protesters, demanding the resignation of the head of state, broke into his administration. By this time, there were no presidential office employees left in the building.

After an emergency meeting of the Security Council, Khadzhimba said that the security forces had been transferred to an enhanced regime, and if necessary, he would introduce a state of emergency in the republic.

Parliament Abkhazia recommended that Khajimba resign as president “due to the tense socio-political situation in the republic and to avoid further destabilization in society.”–

The administration of the head of state believes that the resignation “can only complicate the socio-political situation and lead to irreversible consequences for the country.”
