President Jokowi Awards Honorary TNI General Rank to Prabowo Subianto: The Facts Behind the Special Promotion

Indonesian Minister of Defense Prabowo Subianto received the rank of Honorary TNI General. There are a number of facts behind the special rank given by President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

This rank was given at the 2024 TNI-Polri Leadership Meeting held at TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Wednesday (28/2/2024). Prabowo became a full general after receiving a special promotion to the rank of Honorary TNI General.

Prabowo’s promotion is in accordance with Presidential Decree Number 13/TNI/2024 dated 21 February 2024 concerning the Award of Special Rank in the form of an honorary TNI general.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi), who was present at the event, immediately pinned 4 stars on Prabowo’s shoulders.

“I would like to convey a special promotion in the form of an honorary TNI general to Mr. Prabowo Subianto,” said Jokowi.

“This award is a form of appreciation as well as confirmation to give full service to the people, to the nation, to the state. I congratulate Mr. General Prabowo Subianto,” added Jokowi.

After being awarded the rank, Prabowo expressed his feelings. Prabowo considered the award to be a heavy mandate.

“It seems heavy,” said Prabowo after the 2024 TNI Polri Rapim event at TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, Wednesday (28/2/2024). Prabowo pointed to the 4 star rank on his shoulder.

At the TNI-Polri meeting, KSP Moeldoko, Deputy Chairman of the MPR Ahmad Muzani, Chairman of Commission I DPR RI Meutya Hafid, TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto and National Police Chief General Police Listyo Sigit Probowo and Chief of Army Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak, Chief of Staff were present. Navy Admiral TNI Mohammad Ali, and Chief of Air Staff Marshal TNI Fadjar Prasetyo.

The theme of this year’s TNI-Polri meeting is “TNI-Polri Ready to Create Security Defense for Advanced Indonesia”.
