The head of state emphasized that industrialized countries are the least affected by the emission of greenhouse gases. On the other hand, nations with fewer resources are the most impacted. For this reason, he asked the members of the assembly to create compelling facts to stop the problem.

The dignitary explained that, as a result of climate change, the affected territories are those of the Caribbean and Central America, with phenomena such as rains, hurricanes and droughts, among others.

“All together (the Caribbean and the Isthmus) we generate less than 2 percent of greenhouse gases, but we are the ones who, always, must rebuild our towns”he pointed.

Likewise, he indicated that Guatemala has promoted actions to reduce this situation. One of them is agricultural insurance, which supports farmers who are harmed. He highlighted that, for the most part, they lost all their crops and that affected their family finances.

Furthermore, through the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Food Training is provided to avoid serious damage to crops.

These actions include using the land well to have seasonal products. In addition, save water for the dry season and create ditches that prevent accumulation of rain.

In a bilateral meeting with Amy Pope, director general of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the president addressed the main causes of irregular migration.

In that sense, both explored alternatives to strengthen cooperation to continue addressing the problem and expand legal avenues. Among the actions, the Safe Mobility Program stood out, which promotes the promotion of a humane and orderly exodus in the region. He recalled that migration is becoming a necessity for survival, which causes the social fabric of countries to break.

“My country emphatically condemns these crimes committed by organized crime. Migrants, out of necessity, have to suffer to reach nations where their dreams are not going to come true,” he pointed out.

Finally, he met with António Guterres, Secretary General of the UN, to whom he reiterated the need to reform the institution, with the purpose of strengthening, from multilateralism, the response to global challenges such as armed conflicts, climate change, prosperity and development. of the towns.

Giammattei regretted the death of children and civilians in the affected territory. “The group of friends is ready to support the initiative for a just peace and all other initiatives aimed at promoting concord in accordance with the charter of the United Nations, international law and the relevant resolutions of the General Assembly,” he pointed.

“Today, we underscore the importance of prosecuting the perpetrators of international crimes because, in doing so, we uphold the very norms on which our international system depends, and we hope that we will deter anyone else from committing these violations in the future,” he concluded.
