“Prefect announces increased police checks to combat urban rodeos and motorized runs in Bordeaux”

Updated 18/04/2023

Following the serious event that occurred the night of April 14, the prefect Etienne GUYOT, announces the strengthening of security checks by the police (police and gendarmerie) to fight with the greatest firmness against rodeos and motorized runs that disturb public order and endanger the safety of people.

Over the last eight months, the police services have achieved 859 anti-rodeo operations in the Bordeaux metropolis and more particularly in the commune of Bordeaux. As part of these “punches” actions, 8,263 people were checked, 1306 verbalized,57 people were taken into custody, 3 vehicles and 20 motorized two-wheelers were seized.

At the same time, the setting up of operational partnership groups bringing together all the stakeholders (local authorities, donors, companies, etc.) has made it possible to carry out preventive actions and carry out sustainable urban planning to combat rodeos and runs (rumble strips, erection of barriers in front of the Bordeaux Lac shopping center, etc.)

In 2022, three GPOs were carried out in Bordeaux with Bordeaux-Métropole and the city of Bordeaux in sectors particularly impacted by wild rodeos. The runs that affected the northern sector of the city of Bordeaux (Le Lac – Les Aubiers) have been definitively eradicated by obtaining, within the framework of the GPO, on the one hand permanent improvements to the long straight line along the exhibition center, on the other hand, a sanctuarization of the large parking lots of the Bordeaux-Lac ZAC, made inaccessible to individuals.

Other sites that do not lend themselves to the same logic of infrastructure development have given rise to planned police operations that have made it possible to obtain seizures of vehicles and to carry out multiple fines. These are the avenue Dassault in Mérignac or the quays of the port area of Bassens.

Etienne GUYOT: « The fight against urban rodeos is a stated priority, both in the context of the implementation of the daily security police since 2018 and in the context of the zero crime plan implemented in the run-up to the World Cup in rugby 2023 and the Olympic Games 2024. J’ai gave instructions to the police and gendarmerie services, and renforcer the number of checks in the most exposed sectors and proceed to the systematic seizure of the machines used. J’invite Moreover la population to inform the police or the gendarmerie quickly when attending a rodeo, composant the 17 or by making a report on Moncommissariat.fr ».
