Predator CG552K: Acer also builds a 55-inch gaming monitor

Acer will show several new monitors at the electronics fair CES 2020. Among them, the huge 55-inch Predator CG552K display will stand out the most. The panel is not only reminiscent of Dell’s bizarre because of the unusually large screen size Giant screen that Golem.de could already test, The display also has a 4K resolution of 3,840 x 2,160 pixels and a comparatively fast frame rate of 144 Hz. Acer and Dell also use an OLED panel. It is quite possible that the panel comes from the same manufacturer and has similar attributes.

Job market

  1. SV Informatik GmbH, Stuttgart
  2. SCALTEL AG, Waltenhofen Kempten area

Acer’s monitor should be designed for HDR400, so it glows in places with a brightness of 400 cd / m². In the test of the Alienware monitor, the rather low brightness was a point of criticism, which cannot be ruled out here either. The display covers approximately 98.5 percent of the DCI-P3 color space. Acer specifies the gray-in-gray response time with a quick 0.5 seconds.

On the back of the monitor, users will find two display port connections and three HDMI 2.0 ports. It quickly becomes clear that even after more than a year, HDMI 2.1 does not seem to be widespread for higher frame rates. Users should connect the panel via display port in order to be able to transmit 4K at 144 Hz at all. In addition to the display connections, there are also two USB-A sockets and a USB Type-C port. Two 10-watt stereo speakers are integrated.

So far, Acer has not commented on the price or the sales date. Dell’s Alienware 55-inch monitor currently costs 3,500 euros. Even if Acer offers its product cheaper, at least a price of around 3,000 euros should be expected.
