Because of Storm Frederico, RBS is using replacement rail buses
The RBS is preparing for the storm night. Buses run on the route between Lohn and Fraubrunnen on Thursday evenings.
There are currently no trains running between Lohn and Fraubrunnen. The Bern – Solothurn regional transport (RBS) has switched to buses, as stated in a press release.
The replacement rail buses stop in Büren zum Hof and in Schalunen on the street. Travelers from Bern to Solothurn or vice versa should use the SBB via Biel or Burgdorf. This train replacement is valid until the end of operations.
The reason for the railway replacement is the storm Frederico. According to the weather forecast, wind speeds of up to 120 kilometers per hour are expected.
“RBS has been preparing for such a violent storm since March of this year,” says RBS media spokeswoman Franziska Sander.
Back in the spring, a train derailed in Lüscherz and Büren zum Hof. In Büren zum Hof, nine adults and three children were injured. There were three injured in Lüscherz.
Since then, RBS has been following the weather forecast and, in the event of a storm warning, decides whether rail operations have to be stopped or not. Factors that determine a setting include from which direction and at what speed the wind is coming.
According to Franziska Sander, the S7, S8 and S9 trains are running according to the timetable because there is no danger from the storm on these routes.
Also affected by Storm Frederico is the Aare-Seeland Mobil rail service, as stated on the website. Since the speed has to be reduced due to the strong gusts of wind, the trains on the Biel – Täuffelen – Ins line (290) run irregularly.
