President Jokowi Emphasizes the Need for Leaders who are Close to the People and Brave for Indonesia’s Future

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) passionately delivered a speech when discussing the criteria for leaders for the future of Indonesia. Jokowi emphasized that Indonesia needs a leader who is close to the people and has the courage to serve the interests of the people.

“This country is a big country. This nation is a big nation. Our population is already 280 million, more or less. Our people need the right leaders, need the right leaders. Those who are close to the people,” Jokowi said at the People’s Conference (Musra) in Istora Senayan, Jakarta, Sunday (14/5/2023).

“Those who understand the hearts of the people, who know the needs of the people. Those who want to work hard for the people. That’s what is needed,” he continued.

In addition, Jokowi said that the Indonesian people needed a brave leader. Namely brave for the sake of the people.

“And brave. Brave, brave for the sake of the people,” said Jokowi with a raised voice and a firm hand gesture.

Jokowi also reminded that the right leader is one who can understand this country. Leaders, said Jokowi, must know how to take advantage of this country’s potential for progress.

“The people need leaders who understand, who understand how to advance this country. Because leaders must understand and know the potential and strengths of this country, what are the strengths of this nation,” he said.
