Pope Francis made himself public for the first time since his bowel surgery last Sunday. He prayed the Angelus prayer from a balcony of the hospital where he went under the knife.
“I thank you from the bottom of my heart,” the 84-year-old prelate said to believers under the balcony in a still somewhat weak voice. This hospitalization makes me realize how important good health care is, he said. He also expressed his appreciation for all healthcare workers, everywhere in the world.
During the operation, part of his colon was removed. Francis is on the mend, the Vatican says.
