Scientists present promising vaccine against cancer – Lifestyle

Scientists have announced that they have performed promising tests for a vaccine that helps prevent various types of cancer. The road to application in humans is still long, but the evidence that it is safe and effective is a signal to scientists that they are on the right track. The vaccine was developed in Instituto Francis Crick, in London, by the team of Rachel Ambler, and addresses a specific type of protein – KRAS – which is related to the development of cancers such as lung, pancreas or intestine. According to ‘Saturday‘, the preliminary tests done on mice in the laboratory, give positive signals to the team, which will present these results on Sunday, during the 32nd EORTC-NCI-AACR Symposium, scheduled for Barcelona, but now, due to the pandemic, will take place online. This vaccine stimulates the immune system to respond to mutations in the KRAS protein. The laboratory results are promising: 65% of the tumor mice that were treated with the vaccine were alive 75 days after receiving it, compared with 15% of those that were not vaccinated.
