Political Response to Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono’s Appointment as Minister of ATR/BPN

Jakarta

Deputy Chairman of Commission II DPR PKB Fraction, Yanuar Prihatin, assessed the appointment of Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (ME) becoming Minister of ATR/BPN is President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) Budi’s political response. Commander TKN Fanta, Arief Rosyid, responded to Yanuar’s statement.

According to Arief, everyone is free to express their opinion. However, he believes that PKB may feel worried after AHY officially became part of the Advanced Indonesia Cabinet.

“Everyone is free to have an opinion, and I think it’s the same when PKB friends say things like that, maybe he’s also worried, right,” said Arief to journalists at Pos Bloc, Central Jakarta, Wednesday (21/2/2024) evening.

Arief said that Yanuar’s statement also had no evidence. He then brought up the position of the PKB which is part of the government and has different choices from Jokowi.

“But thank God, Mr. Jokowi has not proven what was said (by the PKB). After all, his choice was different, right? If you retaliate, you should also cut down the PKB. But that is the form of statesmanship of Joko Widodo, right? Even though the PKB has a different choice “But Pak Jokowi still respects the PKB,” he said.

Furthermore, Arief assessed that regarding the people in the cabinet is the president’s prerogative. He also considered AHY to be a credible and capable figure in the position he was given.

“I think Mas AHY is also a figure who has long been known to have credibility, has capable leadership, and today when Pak Jokowi gives him his trust, we should appreciate that choice,” he concluded.

Previously, Deputy Chair of Commission II of the PKB Fraction, Yanuar Prihatin, assessed that AHY’s appointment was inseparable from political elements.

“Yes, firstly, if you change ministers, that is the president’s prerogative, meaning the president has full authority to dismiss or appoint. But of course, because this is taking place in a political year, it is very difficult to separate it from the new political coalition in Jokowi’s government, at least in the end of his reign,” Yanuar told reporters, Wednesday (21/2).

Yanuar suspects that AHY’s election was partly due to President Joko Widodo’s (Jokowi) policy of replying to Budi. He said the Democratic Party had given support to one of the presidential candidates in the 2024 elections.

“So, this is still a political nuance, maybe it’s retribution or recompense for Jokowi’s services because the Democratic Party supported yesterday’s presidential election. I think that’s all. Yes, I think it’s repayment, a return of gratitude, because yesterday it supported the presidential election,” he said.
