This was stated by the police chief of the Interior Ministry Poland Jaroslaw Szymczyk has been rushed to hospital after a gift he received from a top Ukrainian official exploded. Szymczyk is said to have suffered minor injuries.
“Yesterday at 07.50 there was an explosion in the room next to the police chief’s office,” reads a statement from the Polish Interior Ministry, as reported by AFP, on Friday (16/12/2022) .
“One of the gifts the police chief received during his working visit to Ukraine on December 11 and 12 blew up,” he added.
Szymczyk met with the Ukrainian police chief and state emergency services during the visit. The interior ministry said the gift that exploded was one received from one of the heads of the emergency services.
“The award was a gift from one of the Ukrainian heads of services,” the ministry said.
Szymczyk is said to have suffered minor injuries. Szymczyk currently remains in hospital under observation.
A National Police official also sustained minor injuries that did not require hospitalization.
“The Polish side has asked the Ukrainian side to provide an explanation,” the ministry added.
