Shortly after midnight, his car collided head-on with an oncoming vehicle on a gentle bend on the Lunterseweg. The driver was a 45-year-old man from Ede and was killed in the collision. According to a spokesperson for the East Netherlands Police Force, the driver had more than twice the permitted amount of alcohol in his system.

There were three more women from Lunteren in the car of the man from Utrechtse Heuvelrug, who was not injured himself. They were injured and taken to hospital.

At least one of the women from Lunteren (17, 18 and 22 years old) was seriously injured. She had to be extricated from the vehicle by firefighters. The road has been closed for some time for assistance.
