The Interior Minister, Fernando Grande Marlaska, has ordered the National Police to shield the entire center of Madrid, with numerous controls on the main arteries of the city, in order to prevent the demonstration that had been called for this afternoon from taking place. against the government of Pedro Sánchez.
Through social networks, the organizers of the protest had called a car march in the Plaza de Colón, this afternoon at 18:30, in order to demand the resignation of the Executive of Sánchez and Iglesias, for its negligent management of the coronavirus pandemic.
However, the Government Delegation has denied authorization to hold this event. In order to ensure that the ban is enforced, Marlaska has ordered the Police to multiply the controls on the main roads that converge in the Plaza de Colón.
From early in the afternoon, police patrols are stopping all vehicles that circulate through points of the city such as the Cuesta de San Vicente, which leads to the Plaza de España from Príncipe Pío, the Plaza de Cibeles, Goya, Alonso Martínez or the Jorge Juan bridge that crosses La Castellana.
The agents ask all drivers to identify themselves and prove with some document the justified reason for their displacement. Since the start of the state of alarm, the controls of the National Police and Civil Guard have been constant at the main entrances to the city, to ensure that the confinement regulations are met.
But the police deployment carried out this afternoon in the center of Madrid, shortly before the scheduled time for the prohibited demonstration, is much higher than what has occurred in recent weeks, as OKDIARIO has verified.
Such is the concern of the Government for this call, which at the moment the Police maintains all accesses to the Plaza de Colón closed with controls, while a helicopter flies over the city center.
The demonstration prohibited by the Government Delegation had been called through social networks with the following message: «Enough of the dead. Enough of lies. Stop manipulating the news. Enough of restricting freedom of expression. Get rid of absurd measures. Enough of the dilapidation of funds in masks and defective tests. Enough of disrespect for the families of the deceased. Enough of leading the country to bankruptcy ».
