Police raid a warehouse for storing Covid drugs in Kalideres, West Jakarta

The police raided a shophouse with the address at Kalideres, West Jakarta (West Jakarta) is suspected to be a location for stockpiling related drugs Covid-19, Monday (12/7).

“We are in one of the shophouses where we indicated that we saw some facts that we found from the results of the investigation there were indications of hoarding (drugs),” said West Jakarta Metro Police Chief Kombes Ady Wibowo in his statement.

Not only hoarding, Ady suspects that the perpetrators are also trying to manipulate the price of drugs in order to make a profit. Moreover, said Ady, currently medicines related to Covid-19 are items that are sought and needed by the community in the midst of a pandemic.

“We see here that the facts found in the field are efforts to raise prices from the highest retail prices,” he said.

During the raid, the police took 730 boxes of Azithromycin 500 mg. According to the regulation, the price of this drug should be Rp. 1,700 per tablet, but there are allegations that it will be increased to Rp. 3,350 per tablet.

Apart from Azithromycin 500 mg, there are other supporting drugs that are stockpiled in PT ASA’s warehouse, including paracetamol and other drugs.

Meanwhile, West Jakarta Metro Police Criminal Investigation Unit Head Kompol Joko Dwi Harsono said the plan was to distribute the stockpiled drugs to areas in Greater Jakarta and other cities on the island of Java.

“This plan is to be distributed to the Jabodetabek area, but because there are indications of hoarding, we will investigate. So that this drug can reach people who need it,” said Joko.

So far, there are three witnesses who will be examined further by investigators. Those who were examined were YP as Director, MA as pharmacist, and E as warehouse head.

“Currently, we are in the investigation stage regarding the case,” said the West Jakarta Metro Police Crime Chief AKP Fahmi.

In this case, the suspects can be charged with article 107 in conjunction with article 29 paragraph 1 of Law Number 7 of 2014 concerning Trade and or article 62 paragraph 1 in conjunction with article 10 of law number 8 of 1999 on consumer protection and or article 14 in conjunction with article 5 paragraph 1 of the law Number 4 of 1984 concerning Outbreaks of Infectious Diseases.
