Police on demonstration tomorrow: we will not tolerate riots

The police are prepared if things get out of hand in The Hague tomorrow during the prohibited anti-lockdown demonstration. In The Telegraph Police Chief Wilbert Paulissen says the police are ready for a “hot weekend.”

For example, a National Staff for Large-scale and Special Operations (NSGBO) has been set up. This national command post is used for large events where police forces outside the region can assist if things go wrong.

“We don’t tolerate riots”

In addition to the protesters, football hooligans have again announced that they will come to The Hague. “Let one thing be clear: demonstration is a fundamental right, but we do not tolerate riots,” says Paulissen on behalf of the National Police.

He refers to the riots last week in The Hague, Helmond in Horn. In total, dozens of people were arrested who turned against the police.

Find entertainment

“It was already restless with the farmers’ protests before the corona period, but now that society is opening up again, it is getting even more restless,” says Paulissen. “You have the people who oppose the corona measures, the Black Lives Matter movement and people who are looking for entertainment simply by rioting.”

Tomorrow’s demonstration in The Hague is prohibited. According to the mayor, the protest poses a threat to public health because of the expected high turnout. There is also the risk of serious disorder. Nevertheless, the organizer of the Virus Madness action group has announced that it is going to the Malieveld.
